LAURIE KNOTT
Laurie Knott is an artist based in Glasgow, who studied at the Glasgow School of Art. His video and sculpture practices use pre-existing narratives and cliches as a foundation to investigate shared histories and contemporary cultures.
His videos use experimental techniques such as hand painted animation as well as a variety of digital editing methods as well as unique sound design, however, at times they borrow a cinematic or televisual style. This variety extends to the narratives in his videos using scripted and improvised methods, monologue, performance and even musical tropes.
Knott works with a close-knit group of fellow artists who are fundamental to the work.

Laurie Knott is a Glasgow based artist. His practice begins with an interest in the things he grew up with, Football and Films. His work seeks to investigate these activities to reflect on masculinity (both the artists own masculinity and that of the culture in the UK) and the culture of success, or conversely, the fear of failure. While his work is critical of the societal constructs that create successful people, he is, at the same time, attempting to bring about his own success as an artist. Adopting the clichés of success and cinema as a visual language the artist explores these themes.
His work is predominantly video based but also includes making sculptures, props and sets which are sometimes included in the videos. The artist directs the videos and sometimes performs in the videos himself, alongside collaborating artists.
